Take A Hollywood Walk of Fame Tour
Each year, millions of visitors to Los Angeles visit the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Extending along 18 city blocks on Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street, the Hollywood Walk of Fame has immortalized thousands of entertainment industry icons on terrazzo stars, which have been carefully carved into sidewalk blocks and strategically placed to guide visitors through the historic heart of Hollywood.
The History of the Hollywood Walk of Fame
If you plan to take a self-directed Hollywood Walk of Fame tour, it helps to understand the rich history behind this iconic L.A. attraction. The Hollywood Walk of Fame dates back to the 1950s, when E.M. Stuart, the volunteer president of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, first floated the idea of creating a star-studded pedestrian route along Hollywood Boulevard. By 1957, the committee overseeing the construction of the Hollywood Walk of Fame had decided on the names of over 1,500 entertainment industry luminaries for inclusion in the project, including legendary director Cecil B. DeMille, studio boss Samuel Goldwyn, and animation genius Walt Disney. The first star on the Walk of Fame was laid on March 28, 1960.
